In the lower elementary classroom we continue the work begun at the preschool level. Lessons that were introduced at the preschool level are reintroduced several times in the elementary years at increasing levels of difficulty.

We offer a rigorous and innovative curriculum. Included in the elementary student’s daily work are:
Language arts (reading, grammar, spelling, creative writing); mathematics and geometry; botany and zoology; geography and history.

These lessons are learned with concrete, hands-on learning materials that have a structured sequence to help lead the school-aged child to discover and understand new information. Different from the traditional school setting where the curriculum guides the daily lessons, it is the elementary student who plans his or her day within the curriculum, under the guidance of the teacher. Students also enjoy researching and discovering the answers to their own, and life’s big questions. Several curriculum-related field trips each year extend the students’ learning outside the classroom.

It is through this process that the elementary Montessori student becomes an independent, confident, self disciplined student of life.
